Defense (Committee Member)

As Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, Congresswoman Sanchez understands the importance of maintaining a strong military. In her role, Congresswoman Sanchez oversees our nation’s strategic weapons, ballistic missile defense, space programs, and Department of Energy national security programs. The Congresswoman also a senior member of the Tactical Air and Land Subcommittee.

Economy and Jobs

As a representative for one of the most vibrant small business districts in the United States, Congresswoman Sanchez knows how important it is to help Americans start, build, and grow businesses that will strengthen our economy and increase global competitiveness. Small businesses employ 53 percent of our private work force and are responsible for 47 percent of sales in America. They are also responsible for 50 percent of our country's private gross domestic product.

Homeland Security (Committee Member)

As the most senior female member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congresswoman Sanchez is committed to protecting America and its citizens. She is a member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, which is charged with securing our nation's land and sea borders, as well as tracking terrorism threats facing the United States.

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is committed to supporting initiatives to ensure families are able to avoid foreclosure and keep a roof over their heads. With foreclosure rates at an all time high, Congresswoman Sanchez believes it is imperative that the government continue programs that aim to keep families in their homes.

Education

When Congresswoman Sanchez is at home in Orange County, some of the most important work she does is on behalf of our local schools. Since taking office, she has made multiple visits to each and every public school in the 46th Congressional District and has learned first-hand what Orange County's schools really need - more teachers, classrooms, and resources.

Energy and the Environment

Congresswoman Sanchez has become a champion for water issues in Orange County by supporting numerous bills that improve California's water system and increase the deliverable water supply in Orange County. In the 111th Congress, she authored and introduced H.R. 383, a bill that would authorize additional federal support for the Orange County Groundwater Replenishment system. Congresswoman Sanchez's bill was included in the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 and signed into law by President Obama on March 30, 2009.

Health Care

Congresswoman Sanchez is a firm believer that every American, and particularly every child, should have access to quality medical care. She was a proud supporter the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) Reauthorization bill, which was signed into law by President Obama on February 4, 2009.

Human Rights

As a Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Vietnam, Congresswoman Sanchez continues to lead the House of Representatives in calling for religious freedom and social justice for the Vietnamese people. Congresswoman Sanchez believes the Government of Vietnam must be held accountable for its human rights violations before viable economic relations can be pursued.

Congresswoman Sanchez has family roots in organized labor. She was a dues-paying member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and joined her peers on the picket lines during a major strike in 2002.

Congresswoman Sanchez understands that a modern, efficient transportation system will directly contribute to Orange County's economic growth and competitiveness.
