2016 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION: Artistic Discovery Contest

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives as an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of our nation's youth.

The Artistic Discovery Contest is open to all high school students in Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District. The winner of the contest will be invited to a reception in Washington, D.C. for the unveiling of their artwork, which will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. This exhibit will include all of the nation-wide winning entries. Along with being featured in the U.S. Capitol, students with the winning entries may also qualify for a scholarship. 

All entries must be original in concept, design and execution. Contestants may use any of the following: 

  • Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
  • Collage
  • Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed Media
  • Computer Generated Art
  • Photography

Art works entered in the contest must be framed and include picture wire. Entries cannot be larger than 28 inches by 28 inches (including the frame) or exceed 4 inches in depth.

***All framed entries must be submitted with both a completed entry form and release form to one of the district offices by April 18, 2016***
