Ribble: LCS to be Named to Honor Marinette

Green Bay, WI--U.S. Representative Reid Ribble (WI-08) today announced the results of an effort six years in the making: a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) proudly built in Marinette, Wisconsin, will forever honor the men and women who built it with the name USS Marinette.

"Marinette’s shipbuilding industry is the pride of Wisconsin, and the construction of Littoral Combat Ships touches not only the men and women who work in the shipyard, but the whole community around Marinette. Building LCS brings billions of dollars in economic activity, and a huge amount of pride in contributing ships that are vital to our national security.  Marinette has earned this honor, and I am so glad they are receiving it."

On September 28, 2011--Ribble’s first year in office—--Congressman Ribble kicked off a community-wide effort at Marinette High School to encourage the U.S. Navy, the purchaser of the Littoral Combat Ships made at Marinette Marine, to honor Marinette by naming an LCS ship after the community.  The effort gained steam at home and ultimately culminated in thousands of letters being sent to Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus from people in and around Marinette. Congressman Ribble was relentless in pushing the issue forward, and on Thursday, September 22, 2016, Navy Secretary Mabus will officially name LCS 25 the USS Marinette.
