Washington—U.S. Representative Reid Ribble (WI-08) commends the House of Representatives for today passing H.R. 350, the Human Trafficking Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery Act, which he co-sponsored to help address and combat human trafficking.

“Human trafficking is a truly horrific crime, and unfortunately, it is happening in our country.   With vulnerable young people who have suffered abuse or lived in the foster system being the main targets, human trafficking is the fastest-growing business of organized crime," Ribble said. “Good government protects the defenseless, and it is crucial for us to detect this crime, punish the perpetrators, and rescue the victims of human trafficking.”

H.R. 350, the Human Trafficking Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery Act, launches a review by the Interagency Task Force to Monitor and Combat Trafficking that will look into federal and state trafficking prevention activities.  The review will be done in consultation with nongovernmental organizations and will work to identify and develop best practices to prevent trafficking.  It also requires a Government Accountability Office inventory of existing federal and state law enforcement anti-trafficking efforts, and improves existing Department of Justice grants, allowing the grants to also support shelters for survivors.
