Economy and Jobs
Northern Michigan families know that our economy is far from recovered. That’s why one my top focuses in Congress is to create jobs and grow the economy so that every family has the opportunity to succeed.
I believe that small businesses are the cornerstone of our economy. Growing up in Northern Michigan, I worked in my grandmother’s inn in Iron River. That business supported our family and helped me save money for medical school. That is the American dream that I want to be a reality for everyone in Northern Michigan.
It is clear that the Washington approach of tax, spend, and regulate has not worked. I believe that we must focus on policies that allow small businesses to grow, which means reforming our tax code, getting spending under control, and eliminating costly regulations that prevent business growth. I also believe that we must improve the education and training opportunities so that individuals can have the skills to do the jobs available right here in Northern Michigan. That is why I have worked with community colleges, businesses and other leaders to promote vocational education.
Having travelled all across our district to meet with job creators in our community, I know that we have the ingenuity and work ethic to turn this economy around. In Congress, I am committed to getting Washington out of the way, so that Northern Michigan can get back to work.
