Rep. Meadows Sends Letter in Support of Governor McCrory's FEMA Request

Oct 9, 2016
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – On Sunday, Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC) sent a letter to DHS FEMA Administrator Gracia B. Szczech in support of Governor Pat McCrory’s (R-NC) request for a declaration of expedited major disaster in response to Hurricane Matthew.

The expedited request would allow North Carolina to receive immediate disaster relief from FEMA as a result of the damages from Hurricane Matthew. Congressman Meadows and Governor McCrory both cite the “unusual severity and magnitude” of damages in North Carolina, including severe flooding, wide spread power outages, torrential rainfall, and damaged transportation infrastructure--arguing that the extent of damage warrants expediting the request. The damages include the closure or partial blockade of many major highways, roads, and interstates, with electricity providers in the area reporting up to 775,000 power outages locally.

Rep. Meadows, who serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations, is in contact with both Governor McCrory and Administrator Szczech to ensure NC receives assistance as soon as possible.
