Washington D.C.- Congressman John L. Mica's update on the Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona and its Medical Complex.

The Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona opened in February, 2015. The 1.2 million square foot state-of-the-art facility provides Central Florida Veterans with increased services and medical attention.

The Medical Complex also includes a VA Nursing Home and Domiciliary. The Domiciliary, a staple of my "Leave No Veteran Behind" initiative, provides our homeless veterans and those in need of long term care or dealing with addiction and mental or serious health issues with increased services.

Most recently, the VA opened SimLEARN at the Medical Complex at Lake Nona. The Simulation Learning, Education and Research Network (SimLEARN) is the flagship center of simulated learning, training and education for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The 51,000-square-foot facility integrates the very best training and medical practices with cutting edge technology and collaborates with distinguished public and private simulation enterprises, like UCF’s Institute for Simulation and Training, to create a state-of-the-art center for VA medical education. The building includes two operating rooms, three intensive care units, a working ambulance bay, six outpatient clinic rooms, a mental health unit, dental and eye exam rooms and a discharge and check out area. However, the most advanced piece of technology in the center is the life-like “patient” that reacts to medications and even breathes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.
