Congressman Patrick E. Murphy represents Florida's 18th Congressional district, which includes northern Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties.  He currently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Select Committee on Intelligence. Additionally, Patrick is the co-founder and co-chairman of the United Solutions Caucus, a bipartisan group of freshman and sophomore lawmakers dedicated to working together to move our economy forward.

Patrick was born and raised in Florida, spending most of his childhood along the South Florida coast.  He graduated with dual majors in accounting and finance from the University of Miami, and went on to work as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for Deloitte and Touche, auditing Fortune 500 companies.  He is currently one of only nine CPAs serving in the House of Representatives.

Committed to strengthening the middle class, Patrick has been fighting on behalf of hardworking families to make sure all Americans have the opportunity to succeed.  He has continually supported efforts to raise the minimum wage, strengthen workers’ rights, and fight for paycheck fairness to address the disparity that still exists between men’s and women’s wages.

Another crucial part of protecting the middle class is ensuring retirement security. One of Patrick’s top priorities has been fighting to make sure our seniors receive the benefits they have earned through a lifetime of hard work. In fact, his first action as a member of Congress was offering a floor amendment to protect seniors and veterans from harmful benefit cuts.  Patrick has always stood strong against attempts to turn Medicare into a voucher system – which would end the program as we know it – and against efforts to raise the retirement age and means-test Social Security.

As a native Floridian, Patrick understands the urgent need to take action to protect our environment. He is a strong supporter of Everglades restoration efforts, beach renourishment projects, and the President’s Climate Change Action Plan – all of which protect important ecosystems in our state.  For his continued efforts, he was recognized by Keep Martin Beautiful with their Environmental Leadership Award in 2014, named the 2014 Champion of the Everglades by Audubon Florida, and was given the Distinguished Public Service Award from the Everglades Coalition in 2015.

Whether it's protecting our environment, fighting for seniors, or ensuring fair pay, Patrick is dedicated to protecting the middle class and the American dream.  He is committed to working with members of both parties to find common-sense solutions to help build a brighter future for the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches, the state of Florida, and our nation.
