Transportation & Infrastructure
In Arizona, and especially in our rural areas, we know firsthand the importance of transportation and infrastructure for our district. Our mostly rural district includes dozens of small and remote communities that need modern infrastructure to achieve long-term economic stability. I will work tirelessly to improve our infrastructure and support the communities in my district who depend on it.
Interstate 10 and the upcoming I-11 transportation corridors are just two examples of how transportation plays a key role in Arizona's future economic growth. My vision for this district is that of a diversified, stable economy. And we can’t get there without a strong infrastructure that includes modernized roads, bridges, pipelines, transportation corridors, broadband and water resources. We must invest in modernizing our infrastructure to support economic development and a stronger foundation for our future.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., gave the following statement tonight after the U.S. House of Representatives voted 342-85 to pass H.R. 5325, the FY2017 Continuing Resolution:
Calling the pickup truck that runs through the Navajo Nation in Black Mesa, Arizona, to the Black Mesa Community School a “bus” may be a stretch. And calling the 119 miles of muddy path a “road” is misleading. Yet, that’s the only way Gunner, a Navajo Nation 6th-grader, gets to and from school every day. Each trip totals up to three hours.
This week, the National Park Service turns 100, and everyone’s invited to the party. You can skip the birthday cake and just take a hike — literally.
During its 100th birthday week, each of the National Park Service’s 412 parks is waiving admission fees (find a park and more info at www.nps.gov).
In Arizona, we are fortunate to have 22 national parks, including the crown jewel of the National Park Service, the Grand Canyon National Park. In my Flagstaff community, the Grand Canyon is our favorite neighbor.
WASHINGTON – Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed a bipartisan amendment introduced by U.S. Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., and Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, that requires the federal government to fulfill its obligation to maintain tribal roads.
WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., is pleased to announced that Window Rock Airport on the Navajo Nation will receive a $1,425,060 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for safety upgrades.
The grant will fund the full rehabilitation of the outdated Runway 20 lighting system and improve safety operations at the airfield during low visibility conditions. Window Rock Airport is a public use airport and is one of six airports owned by the Navajo Nation.
The Navajo Nation Council quarterly session got underway earlier this week. One of the first things President Russell Begaye talked about was the need for housing and health care services for the Nation’s veterans.
First District Congresswomen Ann Kirkpatrick was in Window Rock, too, and she agreed completely with president Begaye’s ideas for veterans.
