WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the House passed Rep. Scott Garrett’s (NJ-05) amendment to the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill.  The amendment would prevent the Secretary of the Treasury and the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, both voting members of Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC), from designating any additional nonbank companies as Systemically Important Financial Institutions (SIFIs).

Scott Garrett (NJ-05) and Bill Foster (IL-11) introduced an amendment to H.R. 5055, the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill, that would stop “payer states” like Illinois and New Jersey from giving more money to smaller “taker states” by eliminating an out-of-date government program.

Scott Garrett (NJ-05), a senior member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the House Budget Committee passed his amendment to encourage House leadership to find $30 billion in cuts in future fiscal bills. Garrett’s amendment was the only amendment that was adopted by the committee. The budget was ultimately reported out of committee with Garrett’s support.
