National Security
The most fundamental and constitutionally-mandated responsibility of our federal government.
At Home:
Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, there has been an increased focus on guarding Americans inside our borders. Under the Obama Administration and their National Security Agency (NSA), the federal government is clearly violating our personal liberties in the name of security. They must be held accountable for these violations of our rights. While true security is founded in individual liberty and self-government, I believe that federal, state, and local law enforcement officers and agencies must have access to the tools and resources they need to defend our nation.
Abroad:
Our men and women serving in combat deserve to have the resources they need in order to complete missions abroad. Upon their return, it is our obligation to ensure that they have the resources they need in order to return to civilian life, including access to educational and health services.
On the Border:
A key component of our national security is protecting our borders, and we must secure it before we move forward with any other aspect of immigration reform. It is the responsibility of the federal government to make sure we know who is coming in to the country and to have an effective system to track and find those who illegally overstay their visas.
More on National Security
Today Congressman Huelskamp was pleased to welcome Chairwoman Hartzler to Fort Riley and highlight why Fort Riley is a critical, unique, and strategic asset to the Army.
“I was once again impressed by Fort Riley. For the needs of the 21st century defense of America, there’s nothing like Fort Riley’s unique, mission-critical capabilities. In an increasingly turbulent world, it was an honor to join Chairwoman Hartzler on her visit to highlight the training and other capacities at Ft. Riley that prepare our brave men and women in uniform to take on ISIS and other enemies."
Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) signed on to a letter with dozens of other members of Congress demanding answers from Director Comey about his shocking recommendation on Tuesday to not indict Hillary Clinton.
The letter relates to Clinton’s years-long strategy of conducting official business with classified information on an unsecure server in an unauthorized location, endangering our national security.
Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) today supported the Department of Defense (DOD) Appropriations Act of 2017, which passed the House 282-138. The legislation funds critical national security needs, military operations at Fort Riley and across the world, and provides for the care of the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families.
Huelskamp said, “I’ve always been a strong supporter of ensuring our men and women in uniform, especially those at Fort Riley, have the tools and resources they need to continue serving and defending our nation.”
Congressman Tim Huelskamp voted today for the National Defense Authorization Act of 2017, which passed the House of Representatives 247-177.
