Congresswoman Gwen Graham

Representing the 2nd District of Florida

Biography

Congresswoman Gwen Graham Official Portrait with American FlagCongresswoman Gwen Graham represents Florida’s Second Congressional District, the state’s largest, which is composed of all of Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Taylor, Wakulla and Washington counties, and portions of Holmes and Madison counties.

Graham is making it her mission to bring the North Florida Way to Congress — working with both sides of the aisle to make a real difference for North Florida families. Using her strong experience as a parent, professional, and consensus builder, Graham and her office are focused on creating jobs and helping local businesses grow, providing responsive constituent services, and tackling the major challenges we face as a country.

Graham has dedicated her first term to passing an economic plan to create jobs in North Florida, as well as fulfilling pledges to reject congressional perks and to run the most transparent office on Capitol Hill. Graham believes no member of Congress should receive special treatment or privileges, and that constituents deserve to have an open door into their representative’s office.

Graham was born in 1963 in Miami Lakes and began spending part of each year in Tallahassee when her father, Bob Graham, was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1966. When her father was elected governor in 1978, Graham and her family moved to the state capital year-round. Gwen graduated from Leon High School in 1980.

Graham’s commitment to serving her community long predates her election to Congress.  As president of the PTA and then working for Leon County Schools, Graham has worked for years to improve education in North Florida.  As division director for professional standards and chief of labor and employee relations, she became known as a real problem solver, able to build consensus out of conflict.

In Congress, Gwen Graham is carrying on her father’s tradition of Workdays — where she works a full-shift at a job next to local constituents. Since starting her own Workdays, Graham has worked at a food truck, peanut farm, police department, goat farm, charter fishing boat, barber shop and at a number of other small businesses.

Graham is married to Stephen D. Hurm, a law enforcement officer and general counsel for Florida’s Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles, and has three children, Sarah, Graham and Mark Ernest.
