Economy and Jobs

Job creation and turning our economy around is my top priority in Congress. As a former small business owner, I know what it takes to run a business, make a payroll and create jobs. Since coming to Congress, I have focused on introducing and supporting legislation that will create an environment that allows the private sector to thrive and create jobs. While there have been positive economic signs lately, we cannot turn our attention away from this critical issue. That is why I am actively working to promote legislation that will help provide economic relief and spur job creation that is desperately needed in Nevada.

PRESS RELEASE -- Heck Opposes Omnibus Spending Bill

WASHINGTON - Congressman Joe Heck (NV-03) today released the following statement after voting against the omnibus appropriations bill for 2016.

"During my time in the House the three items at the top of my priority list have been keeping America safe, reducing government spending, and getting Nevadans back to work. This bill falls short on all three. It raises discretionary spending above last year's level, marking the first time since 2011 we have failed to reduce spending, while continuing to under-fund our national defense. And although Nevada's economy has improved over recent years, I worry that tripling the number of H-2B visas for foreign workers will put Nevadans at a disadvantage." Read more here.

PRESS RELEASE -- JOLT Act to Expand International Tourism to U.S., Increase National Security

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Joe Heck (NV-03) and Mike Quigley, (IL-05) today introduced the Jobs Originating through Launching Travel (JOLT) Act, a bipartisan effort to expand international tourism and increase national security.

"Boosting our economy and improving national security are two of the most critical challenges we face as a nation and the JOLT Act addresses them both," Rep. Heck said. "Expediting the visa interview process and expanding the Visa Waiver Program will bring more international travelers and tourists to destinations around our country and creates jobs. Making discretionary visa waiver security programs mandatory will improve our security at home and aid our intelligence community in the fight against global terrorism. I look forward to working with Rep. Quigley again to continue building broad bipartisan support for the JOLT Act and, hopefully this year we can move the bill to the floor." Read more here.
