GRAYSON SELECTED FOR SCIENCE, SPACE, AND TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

Assigned to Subcommittees on Energy and Environment

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-09) will serve on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology and two of its subcommittees: Energy and Environment.

The Environment Subcommittee oversees the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the federal entity tasked with monitoring severe storms, tracking oceanic and atmospheric conditions, and providing guidance on use of coastal resources. “NOAA’s work is crucial to the safety and well-being of Floridians, who are greatly impacted by extreme weather events,” Grayson commented. “As the only Floridian on this subcommittee, I hope to work closely with NOAA to ensure that our state remains a top tourism destination, and a safe place to live.”

Grayson also intends to continue working on other issues he highlighted during his first term on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. “My priorities include encouraging the U.S. Navy to uphold its responsibility to the people on the island of Vieques in Puerto Rico, and protecting America’s space program,” Grayson stated. “The federal government has made enormous investments in the future of NASA, specifically in Central Florida. As the only committee member from our area, I truly understand the value of continued space exploration and research.”

While serving on the Energy Subcommittee, which is in charge of the government’s research programs on energy, Grayson hopes to incentivize alternative energy ideas and new methods for energy production. “We can unleash American ingenuity to not only lower the cost of energy, but also to mitigate the ill-effects of energy production on the environment,” said Grayson. “Our nation’s greatest resource is our unrelenting ability to identify smart solutions for the challenges we face.”

Congressman Alan Grayson represents Florida’s 9th Congressional District, which includes Osceola County, as well as parts of Orange and Polk counties. He previously served as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 8th Congressional District in the 111th Congress.
