Grayson to DHS: Just Say ‘NO!’ to Armed Drones in the U.S.

Representative’s Amendment Protects American Citizens from Weaponized Drones

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-09) improved the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations bill last evening when he passed an amendment that forbids DHS from purchasing or operating militarized drones.

Grayson offered his amendment on behalf of himself and his colleague, Congressman Rush Holt (NJ-12). The amendment passed unanimously by a voice vote.

Grayson explained the Grayson-Holt amendment, saying, “As our wars abroad draw down, and militarized drones no longer needed for military operations become available for purchase, we must ensure that these drones are not used within our shores. It’s important that we protect American citizens by saying, unequivocally, ‘NO’—the Department of Homeland Security CANNOT purchase, use, or operate weaponized drones.”
