Meets with Medical Center staff at facility plagued by delays

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-09) today met with the staff of the Orlando Veterans Administration Medical Center to tour the Medical Center and discuss the lack of progress made on the much-needed facility.

After touring the Community Living Center facility, which will offer assistance to veterans suffering from dementia and spinal cord injuries, Grayson said, “The Community Living Center is a beautiful and well-designed facility. It is a shame that it cannot currently care for veterans in need of these services because of unnecessary construction and contracting delays.” The facility will also assist veterans undergoing rehabilitation and those in need of hospice care.

In his discussions with staff, Grayson emphasized concerns raised in his recent bipartisan letter addressed to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shinseki. Grayson wants to know why delays and controversy continue to plague the project.

Grayson discussed possible ways to bring the project up to speed, including hiring new contractors and identifying new funding sources. In his discussions with the Medical Center’s staff, Grayson inquired about potential financial obstacles, particularly if the project delays continue. He urged the staff to pursue alternatives to the current contract and ensure that the center reaches completion.

Congressman Alan Grayson represents Florida’s 9th Congressional District, which includes Osceola County, as well as parts of Orange and Polk counties. He previously served as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 8th Congressional District in the 111th Congress.
