Education and Student Loans
Working in the Leon County School System and serving as the president of my local PTA, I’ve seen firsthand how a quality education can change a child’s life. We need to ensure every student in North Florida has access to the tools they need to succeed – that means investing in our public schools and early child education programs such as Head Start.
Our district is home to Florida State University, Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, Gulf Coast State College, Tallahassee Community College and other higher education institutions. These schools are all valuable tools for growing North Florida’s economy.
I’ve proposed several common sense, bipartisan solutions to improve the quality of education in North Florida:
- Make college more affordable for all students by reining in student loan rates and increasing access to Pell Grants
- Help build relationships between our higher education institutions and local industries to keep more college graduates in North Florida
- Utilize community colleges for job training programs with local businesses
- Invest in vocational education programs to teach students trades and skills they can use to find good-paying jobs in North Florida
Ensuring every person has access to a world class education is the most important thing we can do to strengthen our communities. I will continue fighting to ensure North Florida has the best schools in the nation.
