Reid Announces More Than $2 Million in FEMA Grants for Nevada Public Safety Efforts

Washington, D.C. Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced$2,002,280 in funding for Nevada public safety efforts through federal grant programs. The grants stem from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters (AFG), Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) and Urban Search and Rescue grant programs.

“Keeping Nevadans safe is a number one priority and I remain committed to ensuring Nevada’s emergency response departments get the resources needed to get the job done,” Reid said. “I commend the hard-working individuals who make it their mission to save countless lives each year. Their efforts do not go unnoticed. That is why I am dedicated to addressing to keeping our emergency response departments staffed and equipped with the tools they need. I thank FEMA for working with me to secure the necessary funds to support Nevada’s public safety needs.”

A breakdown of the grants is below:

The AFG and SAFER grant programs awarded $387,488 to the City of Elko Fire Department, $372,500 to the Clark County Fire Department and $54,710 to the City of Las Vegas Fire Department. These funds will provide the necessary resources to hire and retain fire fighters in both Elko and Clark Counties as well as the City of Las Vegas.

The Urban Search and Rescue Response System in Clark County will receive $1,187,582 in grants. These funds will aid in providing qualified personnel, administrative and program management, training, equipment, maintenance and storage. This task force is responsible for disaster response and maintaining a high standard of preparedness.
