    (Lafayette, LA) – Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced $25,887,261 in grant funding for the state of Louisiana. Specifically, $3,522,954 will be awarded to the Saint Mary Levee District to provide emergency reinforcement and protection to levees and other infrastructure in the wake of the flooding event that began on December 28, 2015.

  • Boustany Votes to Protect Small Businesses from Overtime Rule

    (Washington, DC) – Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) spoke on the House floor in support of H.R. 6094, the Regulatory Relief for Small Businesses, Schools, and Nonprofits Act, a bill to require a six-month delay in the effective date of the Department of Labor's new overtime rule. Without congressional action, drastic changes to federal overtime policies will take effect December 1, 2016, resulting in harmful consequences for workers, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, as well as colleges and universities. Dr. Boustany is a cosponsor of the legislation.

  • Boustany Supports $500 Million in Disaster Assistance for Historic Louisiana Floods

    (Washington, DC) – Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) supported the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5325, the Continuing Appropriations and Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act and Zika Response and Preparedness Act. This Continuing Resolution (CR) provides funding for the federal government through December 9, 2016. The CR includes $500 million in Community Development Block Grants (CBDG) for states to help families and communities recover from recent flooding events. The bill passed the House by a vote of 342 – 85.

  • Boustany Supports Storm Protection and Coastal Restoration for Louisiana

    (Washington, DC) – Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) supported passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016 (H.R. 5303). This vital legislation authorizes United States Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) projects and activities to improve maritime infrastructure, support specific flood protection projects, and continue coastal restoration efforts in Louisiana. WRDA has passed the House by a vote of 399 – 25. The bill now heads to conference with S. 2848, which cleared the Senate by a vote of 95 – 3 earlier this month.

    (Washington, DC) – Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) issued the following statement after a waiver was granted for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to change the federal cost-share reimbursement ratio for the state of Louisiana's flood recovery. When a Major Disaster Declaration is initially provided, a cost-share ratio of 75 percent federal, 25 percent state and local is immediately placed into effect. The President's waiver grants a cost-share ratio of 90 percent federal, 10 percent state and local.
