(Lafayette, LA) – Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) congratulated Louisiana-basedCenturyLink after the company reached an agreement to buy Level 3 Communications Inc. for approximately $25 billion.

Boustany said: “CenturyLink is living proof of the American Dream right here in Louisiana. Starting with only 75 employees, this high-tech company has grown to provide nearly 3,000 jobs in Louisiana. This acquisition will allow CenturyLink to become even more competitive in bringing jobs to Louisiana.  I am proud to see the continued growth of CenturyLink and will continue to fight to keep the American Dream alive in Louisiana."

On October 31, CenturyLink, Inc. announced the cash and stock acquisition of Level 3 Communications, making the new company the second-largest domestic communications provider serving global enterprise customers. CenturyLink, Inc. began as small rural telephone company in Oak Ridge, Louisiana, and has grown into a global communications, hosting, cloud, and IT services company for both residential and commercial needs. CenturyLink is based in Monroe, Louisiana, where the company employs nearly 3,000 Louisianians.
