Repurposing the Lake Baldwin VA Medical Complex
The Lake Baldwin VA Medical Center, a former Naval Hospital, is being repurposed after the opening of the Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona.  The VA granted my request to keep the facility in use and in service to our veterans, and both the pharmacy and clinic will remain open at the Lake Baldwin center.  We are looking at adding services, such as a mental health and surgical suites, to the remaining floors.

Domiciliary Care Unit Opened
With Lake Baldwin reopened after two years of being vacant, I was pleased to join VA officials and veterans as we reopened the 56 bed reconstructed domiciliary care unit at Lake Baldwin.  This medical care unit will provide much needed services to our homeless and special needs veterans to help them get them back on their feet.

With the opening of the domiciliary at the Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona two years ago, the Lake Baldwin VA Domiciliary was closed, but has subsequently been totally renovated and now reopened.

Update on Closed Lake Baldwin VA Nursing Care Facility
ON Feb 9th, I presented on the House Floor a bill to transfer the vacant 120-bed Lake Baldwin Nursing Care Unit to the State VA.  On Feb 29th, the President signed my legislation into law, and we have been working with the Florida VA office to ensure that we reopen those needed nursing beds as soon as possible.  The State of Florida VA already operates 7 veterans nursing units and can expedite the opening, save taxpayers money and provide excellent veteran care services.
