Congresswoman Gwen Graham

Representing the 2nd District of Florida

Health Care

Every working family in North Florida deserves access to affordable health care.  The Second Congressional District is home to world-class health centers, but we still have problems providing affordable care to rural communities that have struggled to keep up with mandates from Washington.

I’m working to cut costs and fix the problems in the Affordable Care Act to better serve North Florida. Both parties agree there are many important protections included in the law, like preventing discrimination based on gender or preexisting conditions and increasing access to preventive care, but the implementation of the law has presented new problems.

Washington’s already wasted too much time fighting over how we got here. It’s time to focus on fixing the law. That means bringing both sides together to find common sense fixes to the regulations that are negatively impacting small businesses, rural hospitals and patients. I’ve crossed the aisle to support several proposals like the Keep Your Health Plan Act that would mandate you can keep your current insurance plan if you like it.

In addition to Affordable Care Act fixes, we must improve our veterans’ health care system. Taking care of our veterans and their families is the most important promise our country makes. Our country’s world-class health care must be extended to all those who serve.

Lastly, we must provide more access to health care in our rural communities. We need to encourage more doctors to practice in rural communities, invest in health centers, and ensure all North Floridians have access to quality health care.
