Rich Visits WWII Honor Flight - Ocala

Oct 28, 2011

I had the real privilege of visiting with the Ocala Honor Flight recently during their stop at the WWII Memorial. It is always a remarkable experience hearing the stories and seeing the dedication that these veterans still have for this country.

For those of you who may not know, Honor Flight is a privately funded program that has been bringing World War II veterans from all over to the nation's capital to visit their memorial and others around the city. For most of these men and women, it's their first time seeing the memorial since its completion several years ago.

These veterans changed the course of history. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't be speaking English today. It's that simple. We owe it to the men and women who gave so much for this country to make sure that their history is preserved for all time.

That's why I would encourage any World War II veterans who have not done so, to get in touch with my office so that we can make sure they get registered for the National WWII Memorial Registry.

The information required by the Memorial for registration is the veteran's name, branch of service, and hometown or state where they lived when they went into the service. The Memorial also asks for optional information such as rank, activities while serving, where the veteran served and any medals or awards they received. All of this information can be obtained from the veteran's DD-214.
