A brand-new community center is now available for residents in East Flat Rock’s Dodd Meadows, a development of Henderson County Habitat for Humanity.

A grand opening Wednesday included Rep. Mark Meadows, Sen. Chuck Edwards, Board of Commissioners Chairman Tommy Thompson and Hendersonville Mayor Barbara Volk cutting the ceremonial ribbon in front of the center, with a large crowd in attendance.

Ron Laughter, executive director for Henderson County Habitat for Humanity, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the N.C. Department of Commerce and Henderson County for the project, which was funded through a Community Development Block Grant.

The one-story facility will accommodate homeowners at Dodd Meadows and will be used for meetings and events by nonprofits and youth groups. The center boasts a meeting room, as well as a fully-equipped kitchen.

A playground adjacent to the center also opened Wednesday; it is one of two planned for the subdivision and was funded in part through a grant from the Glass Foundation.
