House Armed Services Committee  

The Armed Services Committee is instrumental in consideration of the annual defense authorization bill, which covers the breadth of the operations of the Department of Defense as well as the national security functions of the Department of Energy and other related areas.  The committee will also continue its oversight and assessment of threats to U.S. national security.

The Armed Services Committee has jurisdiction over laws, programs, and agencies under permanent authority, including Armed Forces, National Guard, Pay and Allowances of the Uniformed Services, Atomic Energy, and War and National Defense.

  • Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces:  Jurisdiction over the majority of Army, Air Force and Marine Corps acquisition programs.  In addition, the subcommittee will be responsible for Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs, National Guard and Army, Air Force and Marine Corps Reserve modernization, and ammunition programs.   • Subcommittee on Strategic Forces: Jurisdiction over strategic weapons, space programs, ballistic missile defense, national intelligence programs, and Department of Energy national security programs.  Includes oversight of Air Force and Navy nuclear deterrence missions.For more information on this subcommittee, click here.

Natural Resources Committee

The Natural Resources Committee oversees energy and minerals related programs, including the Federal Oil and Natural Gas Royalty Programs, royalty audit and inspection, oil and gas royalty rates, availability of oil and gas resources, identifying energy corridors on federal lands and development of oil shale Research and Development Programs.

The Natural Resources Committee is also focused on Alternative Renewable Energy Projects, such as wave, wind, or solar energy and other projects that make alternative use of existing oil and natural gas platforms.

  • Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources: This subcommittee has legislative jurisdiction over energy and mineral resources located on lands and waters owned or managed by the federal government, including oil and gas leasing on lands in Northwest Louisiana and the Outer Continental Shelf.  In addition, the subcommittee is responsible for the supervision of the government's collection of energy and mineral royalties.
