John has represented Louisiana’s 4th Congressional district since 2009. It encompasses most of the western side of the state, ranging from Caddo to St. Landry.  It is also home to Barksdale Air Force Base and Fort Polk/Joint Readiness Training Center, two of our country’s leading military bases.

Growing up in a blue-collar family John was taught the value of hard work, especially once he had to take care of his family after his mother became disabled and his father passed away when John was a teenager.  He then worked his way through college at the University of Mississippi and later attended medical school on a Navy scholarship.  John then served six years as a Medical Officer.

After his time in the Navy, John moved to Minden, Louisiana with his wife Cindy where he opened a medical practice that is still running today.  Since then he’s also started several non-medical businesses that provide numerous jobs for the community.

In the House, John serves on two House Committees: Armed Services and Natural Resources where he is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Water, Power and Oceans.

One of John's main focuses is to preserve the same freedoms under the Constitution that gave him the opportunity to strive for the American dream.  He believes that the people he represents are best served when they are able to create their own success in an environment that embraces individual liberty and is not hampered by high taxes or unnecessary regulations.

He has worked in Congress for sensible health care reforms, and authored legislation urging all Members of Congress to participate in the same health care system that they create for the American people. He serves as Co-Chairman of the GOP Doctor’s Caucus, a group that includes 14 physicians who work to develop patient-centered health care reforms.  John has also championed conscience protections for medical personnel who choose not to participate in abortion practices. In 2007 he was named the Louisiana Family Doctor of the Year.

John and his wife Cindy have been married for 37 years and have four children and three grandchildren.
