Rep. Hudson Applauds Signing of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement applauding the President’s signing of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (H.R. 803).

“It is absolutely tragic that six years after the economic recession was supposedly over, millions of Americans are still struggling to make ends meet or find a job in the first place. At the same time, I talk to businesses back home in North Carolina all the time who say they want to hire people, but can’t find workers with the skills needed for the jobs they’re filling.

“This legislation will consolidate and streamline workforce development programs, protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring that workers have the skills they need to get the jobs that are out there. I had hoped the Conference Committee would maintain all reforms found in the House-passed SKILLS Act and there is still more work to be done, but this is a big step in the right direction. I will continue working to help unemployed North Carolinians access the skills needed to get back to work."

As a cosponsor of the House-passed version—the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act—and a leader on the House Committee on Education & the Workforce, Rep. Hudson was invited by the White House to attend the bill signing ceremony.
