Hudson’s Bipartisan Jobs Bill Passes House
 
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), member of the Energy and Power Subcommittee, released the following statement after a bill he cosponsored with Energy and Power Subcommittee Ranking Member Bobby Rush (D-IL) to improve energy and manufacturing job-training programs passed the House:
 
“America’s energy revolution has created a record number of high-skilled, good-paying jobs, but too often folks are not equipped to take advantage of these opportunities. Today’s bipartisan bill will close the skills gap by strengthening job-training programs and empowering workers to get and keep 21st Century energy and manufacturing jobs. I applaud Ranking Member Rush’s work on this bill and will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to help unemployed North Carolinians get back to work.”
 
By directing the Department of Energy to effectively utilize existing resources, H.R. 4583 would connect individuals with job-training programs – emphasizing under-represented and low-income communities - while also making current programs more efficient and effective. It directs the Secretary of Energy to work with industry to identify the specific skills needed in our 21st century energy economy. After identifying the skills gap, the Secretary is directed to encourage state education agencies to equip students with these skills.
