Hudson Will Not Stand for "Lawlessness and Negligence" in Border Security

WASHINGTON- U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after the House Homeland Security Committee markup of the Border Security Results Act of 2013, a bill he co-sponsored.

“Nearly every day we hear about the sweeping changes Congress is pursuing to our immigration laws. While the need for immigration reform is undeniable, I cannot, and will not support any type of reform until we secure the border. Border security is the key to effective immigration policy and the federal government has not only been unwilling to adequately secure the border, but has failed in its responsibility to establish and carry out a comprehensive plan to do so.  The lawlessness and negligence that the Department of Homeland Security and our political leadership display in regard to our border security cannot be stood for and must be addressed before any new immigration policies are implemented.”

The Border Security Results Act of 2013, H.R. 1417, requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop a comprehensive strategy to gain and maintain situational awareness and operational control of the border, with the goal of achieving operational control within two years and nine months of enactment.
