Hudson: We Must Cut Spending to Pre-Obama Levels

WASHINGTON- Tonight, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after his amendment to the FY15 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 4923) to cut discretionary spending to FY 2008 levels failed to pass the U.S. House of Representatives.

“While I appreciate the work of the Appropriations Committee in crafting this important bill that does decrease spending, we must recognize that this is not enough to solve our nation’s fiscal crisis. Our federal government is saddled under an enormous $17 trillion debt, and we can’t continue to kick the can down the road. I made a promise to my constituents that I would work to cut wasteful government spending and scale back our bloated bureaucracy by first rolling back discretionary spending to pre-Obama levels.

“This amendment made an across the board cut that is a step in the right direction to making real, substantive cuts to pay down our debt and save future generations from economic disaster. While I’m disappointed that this amendment did not pass, I remain committed to standing up against Washington’s reckless and unsustainable spending habits to get our economy back on track and give taxpayers the solutions they deserve.”

Rep. Hudson’s amendment to FY15 Energy and Water Appropriations Act would cut spending back to FY 2008 levels with an across the board cut of 7.4831 percent. The cuts do not apply to defense accounts in the bill. To read the amendment, click here

The amendment was supported by Heritage Action, National Taxpayers Union and FreedomWorks.
