Hudson Votes to Secure the Border and Block Administration’s Amnesty Policies
 
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 5230 and H.R. 5272.
 
“The humanitarian and national security crisis along our southern border is a tragic result of this Administration’s failed leadership. Today, the House took responsible steps to strengthen security at the border, deter immigrants from attempting to enter the country illegally, quickly send home those who are here illegally, and prevent President Obama from unilaterally refusing to enforce our nation’s laws. This approach gives officials on the ground the flexibility and resources they need to get the situation under control and tackle the root causes that have led to this problem without wasting hard-earned taxpayer dollars.”
 
H.R. 5230 is a supplemental appropriations bill that includes $690 million in funding taken from the accounts like foreign aid and policy reforms to meet immediate border security and humanitarian needs by increasing the National Guard presence, boosting border security and enforcement, ending catch-and-release, and allowing swifter deportations.
 
H.R. 5272 is a bill to prohibit the federal government from expanding President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, authorizing new deferred action for any class of aliens, or newly authorizing any alien to work in the U.S. if he or she was not lawfully admitted into the U.S. and is not lawfully present.
