Hudson Votes to Hold the IRS Accountable

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after supporting a series of bills to hold the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) accountable:

“The constant scandals burning at the IRS have created a cloud of mistrust and fear. From targeting taxpayers for their political beliefs to rehiring hundreds of untrustworthy ex-employees, it’s clear the IRS doesn’t have the best interest of hardworking taxpayers in mind. I’m proud to support legislation to help restore accountability, protect taxpayer rights and tip the balance of power back to the people and away from Washington’s bureaucrats.”

The House passed a package of commonsense reforms to hold the IRS accountable, including:
  • The Taxpayer Bill of Rights Act of 2015 (H.R. 1058) to codify a strong set of basic rights for taxpayers and restore taxpayers’ trust in both the IRS and the tax system.
  • The IRS Email Transparency Act (H.R. 1152) to prohibit any officer or employee of the IRS from using a personal email account to conduct official business.
  • The Prevent Targeting at the IRS Act (H.R. 709) to authorize the IRS to terminate employees who engage in political targeting.
