Hudson Votes to Defund President Obama’s Illegal Amnesty

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) voted to defund the President’s illegal executive amnesty, strengthen border security and responsibly fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for FY2015.

“Like my constituents, I am outraged at the President’s unconstitutional actions to grant amnesty to nearly five million illegal immigrants. I share the belief with the American people that the rule of law must be upheld, not unilaterally changed at the whim of a President who continues to disregard our constitution and turn his back on American workers and people who are trying to join our country legally.

“Today’s legislation stops the President from enforcing his illegal amnesty by using the power of the purse to ban funds from being used to carry out his executive actions or any future illegal executive action on immigration. In addition, it champions conservative reforms that make the most out of each tax dollar to invest in critical security and law enforcement efforts that protect our nation against threats and strengthen security at our borders.

“As I’ve said before, I recognize our immigration system is broken, but I cannot and will not support any type of immigration reform until we secure the border first and uphold the current rule of law. I made a promise that I would fight to block the President’s unconstitutional actions, and I have been an advocate for strong legislation that forces the President to make a choice: does he stand with the American people, or does he continue to push his unconstitutional executive amnesty that punishes legal immigrants and Americans looking for work?”

Last week, Rep. Hudson led his like-minded conservative colleagues to call on Leadership demanding that Congress stand firm in its efforts to oppose the President’s executive action on immigration and immediately restrict funding for its implementation.

In addition to funding DHS and strengthening our homeland security efforts, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2015 (H.R. 240) includes the following amendments to block the President’s executive actions on immigration:
  • Aderholt Amendment: prevents any funds from being used to carry out President Obama’s executive actions and blocks any similar orders from being issued in the future. Additionally, it rolls back the prosecutorial discretion the Administration has used to stop enforcing certain immigration laws, and defunds illegal aliens’ ability to receive any federal benefits.
  • Blackburn Amendment: blocks funds to consider new, previously denied, or renewed Deferred Action applications.
  • DeSantis Amendment: forces the Administration to treat any illegal immigrants convicted of any form of domestic abuse or sexual crime at the highestpriority for deportation.
  • Salmon Amendment: Sense of Congress that Executive Branch should not pursue policies that make it easier to hire Illegal Immigrants than Citizens and Legal Residents.
  • Schock Amendment: Sense of Congress that the Executive Branch should not pursue policies that put the interest of Illegal Immigrants ahead of Legal Residents.
