Hudson Leads NC Delegation in Bipartisan Letter to Surface Transportation Board
 
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) led members of the North Carolina delegation in a letter urging the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB) to closely follow the developments surrounding Canadian Pacific’s merger proposal regarding Norfolk Southern.
 
“I am deeply concerned by the potential impact a merger would have on folks who are directly and indirectly employed by Norfolk Southern, as well as North Carolina’s economy and critical infrastructure across the state. Because of this, we must ensure any merger receives the highest level of scrutiny.”
 
North Carolina is home to over 1,280 Norfolk Southern employees, 1,193 miles of track and 13 rail yards and facilities. Norfolk Southern also provides critical transportation services to multiple U.S. Department of Defense facilities in North Carolina. In addition, the State of North Carolina and Norfolk Southern worked together in a public-private partnership to open a 200-acre, $92 million intermodal terminal at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which is expected to generate $7.6 billion in regional economic development in the next 20 years and create nearly 7,000 jobs.
