Hudson Introduces Accountability to Washington
 
WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) introduced his first bills to the 114th Congress, the Federal Sunset Act of 2015 (H.R. 183) and the Farmers Against Crippling Taxes (FACT) Act (H.R. 186).
 
“When I first ran for Congress, I made a promise to folks back home that I would fight to cut wasteful government spending and help alleviate Washington’s heavy taxing hand by repealing the death tax. I introduced these measures first because I am committed to keeping that promise and championing our community’s priorities.
 
“The Federal Sunset Act is a bold idea – one our country desperately needs – to finally introduce oversight and accountability to our bloated federal bureaucracy and fundamentally change the way Washington works. Instead of every government program continuing to run on auto-pilot unless Congress specifically cuts it, my plan sets an expiration date on every government program so that they would all end at some point unless Congress specifically saves them. The FACT Act is just as necessary since it repeals the death tax – a tax I think is the most immoral tax heaved on our farmers and small business owners. These commonsense measures help deliver to taxpayers what they deserve – a smaller, more limited government that is effective, efficient and accountable.”
 
The Federal Sunset Act of 2015 will help eliminate wasteful government spending and bring much-needed reform to the way Washington budgets and spends tax dollars. It creates a bipartisan commission to set an expiration date on each federal agency and review its policies and programs at least once every 12 years. This commission would seek public input through hearings on each agency under review. The commission would then submit a report to Congress containing an analysis of each agency or program, and make recommendations as to which agencies either need to be abolished or substantially reformed. Congress would then be required to draft legislation to carry out the recommendations otherwise the said agency or program would expire.
 
The Farmers Against Crippling Taxes (FACT) Act will permanently eliminate the death tax and end the double taxation that threatens the livelihood of family farms, small businesses and jobs.
