Hudson: EPA Threatens Economic Security, Destroys Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement demanding reform at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

“The costly, job-killing regulations that the EPA churns out are one of the greatest threats to the economic security of our nation. Bureaucrats at the EPA sit in closed-door meetings and conjure regulations to spend more of our tax dollars and strong-arm their way into our local communities.

“We’ve made substantial strides to protect family farms and small businesses from the overregulation of the EPA, but the job is not done. From blocking the EPA’s outrageous ‘Waters of the United States’ rule to shining a light on the regulatory process, I’m determined to advance conservative reforms that rein in Washington’s overreach and return control back to North Carolina.”

Today, Rep. Hudson joined a bipartisan group of representatives to block the proposed WOTUS rule by requesting the House Appropriations Committee to include language that prohibits the EPA and other federal agencies from using appropriated funds for the WOTUS proposed rule, or any similar rule or guidance under the Clean Water Act (CWA), for FY16.

The EPA’s WOTUS proposed rule would drastically expand the Clean Water Act (CWA) to redefine navigable waters and give limitless federal control over nearly all state and local waters.

The letter can be viewed here.

In addition, today Rep. Hudson voted for the Secret Science Reform Act of 2015 (H.R. 1030), a bipartisan EPA reform bill to increase transparency, strengthen public participation and ensure policy is based on sound science.
