Defense & National Security

The most important role of the federal government is protecting our citizens from national security threats. This means creating a strong system for defense both at home and abroad. The United States should continue to act as a defender of freedom and a staunch supporter of our allies worldwide.

We must continue to maintain a world class force that is capable of taking the fight to the enemy and operating wherever threats arise.  In order to do so, it is necessary that we continue to provide the funding and tools our men and women in uniform need to do their jobs, and safely return home to their families. I applaud the bravery and sacrifice our military men and women make each and every day.

In tough economic times it is important that we hold every federal agency accountable for taxpayer dollars and the Department of Defense is no exception. Numerous national security officials have pointed out that the Pentagon’s budget must reflect the threats of this century and cannot be mired in old concepts and Cold War plans. Ultimately, our nation’s security is dependent on our economic strength and our ability to prioritize spending.

The past decade has taught us that many threats no longer come from traditional nations, but rather from determined groups of extremists who seek to wreak havoc on the American dream. We can never forget how 9/11 changed the way America operates in the world and how we must be vigilant against any threats of terrorism. The ongoing struggle against the rise of ISIS and radical Islamic terrorists demonstrates the world is perhaps as unsafe today as it has been in decades. It is vitally important that Congress continue to protect American citizens and interests both at home and aboard.
