Hudson Votes to Lock in Pre-Obama Spending Levels and Combat ISIS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC), released the following statement after voting in support of H.J. Res. 124—a short term appropriations package to provide discretionary spending for the entire federal government at levels agreed to under the Murray-Ryan agreement and includes authorization to arm and train vetted opposition fighters battling the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“Since coming to Congress, I have been an outspoken advocate for returning discretionary spending to pre-Obama levels so we may begin to make substantive reforms to scale back our bloated bureaucracy. While there is still much more work to do, I am pleased that we were able to maintain the savings agreed to at the end of last year and provide the stability our country desperately needs right now.

“Additionally, this resolution authorizes arming and training appropriately vetted opposition fighters in the battle against ISIS. While I continue to have deep concerns about President Obama’s leadership in this conflict and remain skeptical that his strategy will be sufficient, I do believe it is important to take necessary steps to defeat this barbaric enemy.”
