Hudson Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUDSON VOTES TO DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD
Rep. Hudson continues to fight to defend the most vulnerable

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after voting for legislation to defund Planned Parenthood and address the horrific practices uncovered in recent videos.

“As an expectant father, I am disgusted by the actions of Planned Parenthood, and I share my constituents’ outrage over the organization’s apparent trafficking in baby organs. Whether you are Republican, Democrat or Unaffiliated, pro-life or pro-choice, we can all agree our tax dollars should not go to any organization that breaks the law. Today we take an important step to stop any crimes from being committed, protect the unborn, and ensure our tax dollars committed to women’s health are used to give women access to health care - not to abort and traffic little babies. As Representative of North Carolina’s eighth district, I am unapologetically pro-life and will continue to fight to defund Planned Parenthood and defend the most vulnerable among us.”

The Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 (H.R. 3134) places an immediate moratorium on all federal funding to Planned Parenthood and its affiliates for one year, while Congress conducts a full and complete investigation into the organization’s activities. Included in the legislation is an amendment that will redirect funding from Planned Parenthood facilities to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to provide women a better alternative for health services.

TheBorn-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 3504) strengthens the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002 by making it a federal crime to fail to provide standard medical care to a child who survives an abortion. It applies stronger penalties in cases where an overt act is taken to kill an abortion survivor.

Rep. Hudson is a cosponsor of both bills.
