Hudson Pushes EPA to Withdraw Racing Regulation
After Hudson’s opposition, EPA reconsidered proposed race car rule
 
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), representative of Charlotte Motor Speedway and Rockingham Dragway and co-author of legislation to combat EPA overreach into motorsports, released the following statement after the EPA withdrew its proposed racing regulation:
 
“The EPA’s proposed racing regulation threatened the way of life for a lot of Americans who enjoy modifying cars for competition and a billion-dollar industry of aftermarket folks who make the parts,” said Rep. Hudson.“After persistent and vocal opposition from myself, my colleagues and race car enthusiasts, I’m pleased to see that the EPA reconsidered. Like I promised when I found out about this ridiculous government overreach, we didn’t just sound the alarm on this – we stopped it. This is a huge win for common sense, North Carolina jobs and the future of racing.”
 
 
Background
As a Member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power, Rep. Hudson sent a letter to the EPA with Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (MI-06) and Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (KY-01) demanding answers on the EPA’s proposed racing regulation. In March, members of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power and the Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy held a joint hearing to examine EPA’s 2017 budget with Administrator McCarthy as the sole witness.
