Hudson Blasts Senate Democrats for Blocking Pain-Capable Vote
Rep. Hudson continues to fight to defend the most vulnerable
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked a vote on legislation to ban late-term abortions.
“By blocking this legislation, Senate Democrats are denying the scientific fact that unborn babies feel pain after twenty weeks. Shame on them for putting politics over protecting the most vulnerable among us. As an expectant father, I will continue to fight to defend life and end the cruel practice of late-term abortion.”
The United States is one of only seven countries that allow elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36), which passed the House in May, prohibits the abortion of unborn children at 20 or more weeks. In addition, it provides protections for infants born alive and empowers women with a civil right of action if a health care provider fails to comply with the law. Rep. Hudson is a cosponsor of the bill.
