Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition was founded in 1982 by Members of Congress to allow high school students in each of the 435 United States Congressional Districts to showcase their artistic abilities.

A long time tradition, the Congressional Art Competition is a fantastic way to for high school students in Northeast Ohio to show the rest of the country the talent they bring to the table. I am eager to see all of the submissions and look forward to hosting the winner in Washington for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The winner’s piece will hang in the U.S. Capitol and I will look proudly at it every time I enter the Capitol to cast a vote. I hope all high school students in the district will take advantage of this opportunity and put forth a submission to show their talent.

The winning artwork from our district will hang in our nation’s capitol for one year. The student with the winning entry will be invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception in Washington, D.C. in June.

  • The winning piece of art from Congressional district will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The winner in both 2014 and 2015 was Mentor High School’s Carolina Kane.
  • The student with the winning entry will be invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception in Washington, D.C.
  • The second place winning entry will hang in my Washington D.C. office for one year, the third place piece will hang in my Painesville office, and fourth place winner in the Twinsburg office both for one year.

A panel of district artists will select the winning entries. The number of pieces I receive will determine whether I can host an art showing at Lakeland Community College, so I am hopeful that you will help me spread the word about this contest and encourage students to participate. I would love to be able to display the artistic talents of the young people in our district at Lakeland Community College.

Guidelines and entry forms can be found here.

All submissions must have a completed Student Information & Release form attached to the back of the artwork, which can be found here.

Students are also encouraged to visit joyce.house.gov to fill out appropriate paperwork or call 440-352-3939 with any questions.

The deadline for submitting artwork to my office is April 22, 2016.

There are two drop-off locations:

(1) my Painesville office at 1 Victoria Place, Room 320, Painesville, Ohio 44077 and (2) my Twinsburg office located at the Twinsburg Government Center, 10075 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087.
