One of the most important aspects of Congress is developing, making, and monitoring laws. New legislation is passed almost every week. Please contact our office to share your thoughts on current legislation that may affect you, your family and your community.  Below is a list of legislation I have introduced this Congress. Click here to see the legislation I have co-sponsored.

Lali's Law

Lali’s Law is named in memory of Alex Laliberte, a former Buffalo Grove resident and Stevenson High School graduate who sadly passed away from a drug overdose. The bipartisan bill will increase access to a life-saving overdose reversal antitode called naloxone. With increased access, the World Health Organization predicts naloxone could save another 20,000 lives every year. Learn more and get news alerts.

HELP for Students and Parents Act

Today across the United States there is $1.3 trillion in student loan debt between 40 million Americans. As the son of a schoolteacher, I’ve always believed that a quality education should be within reach for everybody, regardless of zip code or income. That’s why we introduced the HELP for Students and Parents Act, to reduce the burden of student loans and help families pay for college. Learn more and get news alerts.

Great Lakes Water Protection Act

As an Eagle Scout for many years, I know firsthand why we must all work to strengthen conservation programs and other policies that protect our environment. As a scoutmaster, I teach Boy Scouts the principle of leaving areas better than when we found them. The Great Lakes Water Protection Act is a commonsense, bipartisan solution to fulfill this pledge with one of our country’s greatest natural resources, which holds 95% of our country's surface fresh water. Stand Up for Students Act

Springfield politicians are currently taxing federal money given to school districts serving low-income students to pay down debts created through decades of irresponsible spending. These politicians should not be allowed to use federal money intended to help our most in-need students to bail themselves out of the mess Springfield created. The Stand Up for Students Act will ensure we are giving our most vulnerable children the best chance to succeed. Learn more about the bill and get news alerts.

Purple Heart Heroes Act

More than 35,000 veterans, spanning generations, are active members in our Tenth District community. These heroes and their families have made tremendous personal sacrifices protecting our freedom. We must do more to serve them when they return home. The Purple Heart Heroes Act will help veterans who have been wounded in combat by empowering them with access to their local commissary. Accelerating Individuals Into The Workforce Act

The best way out of poverty is a job. Nearly 2 million families receive TANF assistance and are struggling to get by. H.R. 2990, the Accelerating Individuals Into The Workforce Act, would help these people find jobs and gain valuable work skills so they no longer need to rely on federal assistance, while also allowing businesses to hire more employees. Combating BDS Act of 2016

The BDS movement serves as a means to delegitimize Israel’s existence and inflame tensions in communities and on college campuses across the country. This important, bipartisan legislation empowers community leaders and individuals who seek to counter the hateful targeting of Israel, while sending an unquestionable message about our steadfast opposition to BDS and strong support for those who stand up for Israel. Startup Act

My primary goal as your Congressman is to get the economy back on track and put in place policies that will help create jobs. I believe we must create a climate of entrepreneurship and innovation, and must pass laws that will help foster new companies and attract individuals seeking to put good ideas into action. That is why I sponsored the Startup Act, H.R. 962. This bipartisan legislation will foster job creation and innovation in America’s economy. Learn more and get news alerts.

The Fuel Choice for American Prosperity and Security Act

The Fuel Choice for American Prosperity and Security Act is a bipartisan bill to provide consumers with choices at the pump and reduce our dependence on oil. This will create a competitive market for different transportation fuels, forcing traditional gasoline to compete with cleaner energy alternatives. By incentivizing automakers to make cars that can operate on fuels other than gasoline, we give consumers more choices at the pump and reduce our transportation footprint. Recognition of the Armenian Genocide

In 1915, the government of the Ottoman Empire launched the first genocide of the 20th century – the Armenian Genocide, but despite overwhelming historical evidence, the Ottoman Empire’s successor – Turkey – has maintained a decades-long policy of refusing to accept responsibility. H. Res. 154 calls on the President of the United States to work toward the Republic of Turkey’s full acknowledgement of the facts and consequences of the Armenian Genocide. SAFE Act

As a former member of the Financial Services Committee, I had the opportunity to work on legislation that preserves the stability and fairness of the American financial system. In that role, I introduced the SAFE Act Confidentiality and Privilege Enhancement Act, H.R. 1480, a bipartisan bill which is designed to fill an important gap in our regulatory framework.
