In March of 2016, Congressman Todd Young introduced the Removing Barriers to Clinical Research Act. His Democratic colleague from California, Congressman Scott Peters, joined him on this legislation which seeks to create parity in the treatment of medical device clinical trials versus that of pharmaceutical drug trials.

Current inefficiencies in the federal approval process tie up resources and put medical device companies at a competitive disadvantage. Congressman Young knows the increasing costs of growing a business in the United States can already be prohibitive for small Hoosier device manufacturers or startups. By eliminating duplicative federal requirements, Congressman Young hopes to speed up the rate of research into life-saving medical innovations while also help Indiana's medical device manufacturing sector remains among the most competitive and fastest-growing in the world.
