House Passes Congressman Guthrie's Sports Medicine Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C.– The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill sponsored by Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), H.R. 921, the Sports Medicine Licensure Clarity Act.

“This bill addresses a unique problem that sports medicine professionals face when traveling with their teams out of state,” said Congressman Guthrie. “There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the legal protection for these sports medicine practitioners who are licensed and covered by malpractice insurance to practice in their home state, but may not be covered when they travel to another state for a game, tournament, or other sporting event. H.R. 921 clarifies that these professionals can provide quality and timely health care for injured athletes without putting their personal and professional lives at risk.”

H.R. 921 provides legal protection for sports medicine professionals who support high school, college, and professional teams by ensuring they are covered by medical liability insurance when providing care in another state.

“I appreciate the strong bipartisan support from my colleagues for this important bill,” added Congressman Guthrie.
