Guthrie Votes to Prohibit Transfer of Prisoners from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted for H.R. 5351, a bill to prohibit the transfer of any individual detained at the U.S. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to the U.S. or any other foreign country.

H.R. 5351 would block President Obama from transferring detainees to any place in the United States or to other countries until January 21, 2017.

“President Obama is determined to shut down Guantanamo Bay by releasing some of the most dangerous terrorists in the world. In doing so he would jeopardize the safety of Americans at home and abroad,” said Congressman Guthrie. “Today’s vote sends a clear message that the American people are tired of the President choosing politics over national security.”
