Carter Marks 7th Anniversary of Ft. Hood Terrorist Attack

(ROUND ROCK, TX)– Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statement in advance of the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attack at Ft. Hood which took place on November 5, 2009.

“On this 7th anniversary of the Ft. Hood terrorist attack, I am reminded once again how precious life really is, and how we must never forget those we lost. This past year we were able to complete and dedicate the memorial to the 13 brave men and women lost on that frightful day. Please take time today to remember our brave members of the military who fight and sacrifice every day so we may be free, those who were tragically killed seven years ago, the survivors, and all of their families.”

“Compounding the tragedy of that dark day was the Obama Administration’s reluctance to recognize the attack as an act of terror, thus denying those killed and wounded the awards and benefits they deserved.  I was proud to take on President Obama and his administration to right the wrong they did to the Ft. Hood victims and their families. It took a very tough fight and five years, but I, along with my friends Sens. Cornyn and Cruz, and Rep. Williams, were able to succeed in awarding the victims their well-deserved Purple Hearts by having the attack recognized as a terrorist act. We will never forget their sacrifice, and that of their families.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, co-chairman of the House Army Caucus, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
