    U.S. Representative John R. Carter was re-elected in a landslide in November 2012 to his sixth term representing Texas' Thirty-First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Carter serves as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations and was selected this term to serve on the Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee and Defense Subcommittee. This is also Congressman Carter's third term to serve as Co-Chairman of the bipartisan House Army Caucus. He has been a member of the House Appropriations Committee since 2004.

  • Carter Hosts Leaders at ALERRT for Active Shooter Training Demonstrations

    Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) hosted a tour and briefings at the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) facility at Texas State University in San Marcos. Invitees included City and County officials, Police and Fire Department Chiefs, and EMS representatives from Bell and Williamson Counties. During the events, leaders witnessed a number of different drills and exercises used by first responders during an active shooter incident. They also participated in a Congressional Achievement Award Ceremony, where Rep. Carter recognized ALERRT and Texas State University for their commitment to this groundbreaking, life-saving training.

  • Carter Announces Grant for Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery

    Today, Rep. John R. Carter announced that the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery is being awarded a federal grant for expansion expenses. The $799,649 is being awarded to fund the construction of a memorial walk, 50 memorial wall markers, landscaping, scattering garden, and supporting infrastructure. The project will develop approximately one acre and serve roughly 222,000 Veterans and eligible family members.

    On October 22nd, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) will be hosting the 2nd Annual Congressional Veterans Commendation ceremony, where he will formally honor distinguished veterans of District 31 for their wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement. The CVC program is nomination-based, designed to recognize veterans within the 31st District of Texas and preserve their stories for future generations of America.
