Federal Assistance for Historic Flooding
Remember to take all necessary precautions for your home and your family. A federal disaster has been declared. If your home has experienced flooding or damage, you may be eligible for disaster assistance. If you have experienced any damage please call our local offices.
After the state’s request and support from Senator Vitter, President Obama made a presidential disaster declaration for the State of Louisiana. This declaration opens the door for Federal assistance to individuals; businesses; state, tribes, and eligible local governments; and certain private nonprofit organizations (PNP) on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the flood waters.
Parishes covered under the declaration include: Acadia, Ascension, Avoyelles, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Vermilion, Washington, and West Feliciana.
Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
The first step in seeing if you apply for federal financial aid is by registering with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Disaster assistance applicants, who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
