Washington, DC – In a meeting with immigration reform advocates about the need for relief from deportation for children and parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents, Senate Democrats discussed legal challenges to the President’s deferred action programs and the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the last Congress, Senate Democrats passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill but the Republican House was unable to pass a bill.  The President announced the deferred action programs, DACA and DAPA, after the House rejected the bipartisan immigration bill that was passed in the Senate.  In June, an evenly split Supreme Court failed to reach a decision on legal challenges to the DACA and DAPA programs.
